Finally! J.Crew Just Got Real About Size Inclusivity
In another win for body diversity, J.Crew just announced they’ve teamed up with size-inclusive label Universal Standard for the upcoming summer and fall seasons. The partnership will help J.Crew offer what the eclectic preppy retailer refers to in a statement as “a new standard of size that is about more than just scaling up or down.”
While many brands tend to jump on the extended-size bandwagon by simply scaling up patterns without considering how their proportions actually fit women in the upper fit range, it appears J.Crew has taken a more thoughtful approach to expanding their offerings. According to a statement from the label, “J.Crew partnered with Universal Standard to glean best practices as they work to perfect their approach to size and fit across much of the brand’s assortment this summer and fall. The collection leverages Universal Standard’s highly technical approach to micrograding by size to ensure that each design is tailored for the real, diverse spectrum of the American woman.”
The range launches at jcrew.com and select stores today, with tops, dresses, skirts, and pants all on offer up to size 5X. What’s more, it has the same effortlessly cool aesthetic that customers flock to J.Crew for: think stripy tees, breezy dresses, and all manner of easy pieces that pair perfectly with leopard sandals and statement earrings.
Finally, women who may have only been able to shop the accessories section of one of the country’s most popular retailers will now have a chance to fully embrace the house that Jenna built — from head to toe. So says the brand statement, “We know this is overdue.” We couldn’t agree more. The future’s looking more stylish already.
