Jennifer Lawrence Might Be Getting Her Own X-Men Movie
Jennifer Lawrence swaps her icy-blonde locks for her shimmery blue skin as she steps back into her role as the X-Men’s Mystique for the new Apocalypse movie (ya know, now that she’s not being held in a tiny airport jail), but there might be much more in store for our fave celeb/mutant duo than just saving the world yet again. News is buzzing that the shape-shifting kickass character might be getting a movie of her very own.
The role of Mystique was first played by Rebecca Romijn before our girl Jennifer Lawrence took it over for the franchise’s last six films. But now, X-Men director Bryan Singer has suggested that the character, who’s become a massively popular draw, could be striking out on her own.
Talking to Empire, Singer explained, “I think [Mystique’s] right for [a solo movie], whether it’s Jennifer or not.” Um, yes and no. Yes, to a Mystique movie. No, you can’t consider anyone but JLaw, kthxbai. He went on to reveal that the blue-tinged mutant who can take on any form within an instant “has this different view of the world… a reality check on the state of the world. It opens up a lot of avenues.” Those sound like some avenues that should definitely be explored.
If a Mystique movie were to happen (*fingers crossed*), it might be a while before it hits the screens, as it would have to line up behind other X-Men projects already slated, including Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine film and Gambit, which will see Channing Tatum in the title role (can’t stop squee-ing over this!), as well as a second adventure along with quirky R-rated Deadpool.
A Mystique movie might not be at the top of the movie-makers’ list, but we’re sure it will be #1 for plenty of hopeful JLaw + X-Men fans.
