Jennifer Lopez and Others Are Donating Generously to Hurricane Relief in Puerto Rico
Jennifer Lopez may still be Jenny from the Block, but that doesn’t stop her from caring about the world outside of her native New York City. On Sunday, Lopez — the Bronx-born daughter of Puerto Rican parents — joined New York governor Andrew Cuomo to announce she would be donating $1 million from the proceeds of her Las Vegas show to support hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
Nearly all of Puerto Rico is without power, and the island’s hospitals are reaching the end of their medical supplies. In the face of the region’s devastation, Lopez isn’t the only celebrity with ties to the affected region who’s raising awareness of the humanitarian crisis underway.
#PuertoRico needs our help. Thank you @JLo for joining us today. https://t.co/VFHVcMu4To

Lopez’s boyfriend, the retired baseball star (and a New Yorker with family roots in the Dominican Republic) Alex Rodriguez and Puerto Rican-American ex-husband Marc Anthony have also been vocal about lending a hand. Actor Benicio Del Toro, singer Ricky Martin, “Despacito” singer Daddy Yankee, and actor Rosie Perez have also made calls to action.
#NYC please bring tonight bottles of water, diapers, batteries! At my concert at the @FordAmpConey #ConeyIsland let's support my island 🇵🇷

There are celeb-approved ways that YOU can help out too. One is to donate through the Hispanic Federation by texting “Unidos” plus the amount you wish to contribute to 4-144, or by visiting the organization’s donation webpage. The city of New York, which is home to a large Puerto Rican community, is also helping by sending donations of supplies to the island. Drop-off locations in New York City can be found here.

The government of Puerto Rico has also put together a guide for ways to help, which you can find here.
