JK Rowling’s Pottermore Just Unveiled a New Way to Explore Hogwarts
September 1 is an important date for Harry Potter fans, as it’s the sorting ceremony and the first day of school at Hogwarts. JK Rowling’s Pottermore is celebrating this year by launching a brand-new interactive digital experience that gives both muggles and aspiring wizards an all-access pass to the storied campus. Ever wanted to fly around the grounds of the famous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Now you can do it from the comfort of your home, on your phone. Because the future is amazing.
The Hogwarts Experience puts you right in the center of the action. From the castle to the Forbidden Forest to the Quidditch pitch, to Professor Sprout’s greenhouses and Hagrid’s hut, you’re free to explore an entire world in the palm of your hand.
As you make your way around, you’ll also notice golden little hotspots glowing throughout the grounds (100 total). You can click the dot to learn facts about the school, major events that took place in those spots in the Harry Potter books, and even some iconic book quotes. Magic, indeed.
Here’s how to get into the Hogwarts Experience: Go to the Pottermore website on your phone, tablet, or computer (it should work on most, according to the site), and sign in or register if you don’t have an account on the site yet. Then click “Discover,” and click or swipe your way through the sights and sounds. So awesome.
Potterheads have always had a wealth of ways to experience the magic IRL, from cafés to the Harry Potter Festival to, of course, Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter. But an immersive experience you can jump into from anywhere, at anytime, is some next-level wizardry — and we’re so, so here for it.
