OMG: The Most Popular Coloring Book Illustrator in the World Has a New Book
The realm of adult coloring books is a fairly new, albeit booming niche in the publishing world. Bookstores are now brimming with black and white pages ready to color in, but there is one illustrator who can take most the credit for the evolution of this kid-friendly craft’s foray into the grown-up world: Johanna Basford.
Basford’s first coloring book Secret Garden was released back in 2013 and has since sold over 1.5 million copies. Her follow-up book, Enchanted Forest proved to be just as popular with 226,000 sold copies in the first month. Today (October 27) Basford released her third book of illustrations, this one titled Lost Ocean.
After taking a peek inside, the pages are just as magical as Basford’s previous books. You’ll find intricate drawings of fish, seahorses, lobsters, etc. Basically, it feels like you’ve become part of Ariel’s world (see what I did there?). Just like Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest, the book is also a bit of a treasure hunt with hidden items sprinkled throughout to look for while you’re coloring.
Considering how fast Enchanted Forest sold out, we’d recommend you snag a copy now, even if you’re still putting the final touches on a previous book. If you wait too long you might have to wait until her next book comes out for this one become available again. The theme for her fourth book has yet to be announced, but our money is on an outer space adventure.
