John Legend Had Something Unexpected to Say About Chrissy Teigen’s Postpartum Depression
Chrissy Teigen is one of many celebs who have opened up about their battles with postpartum depression recently. And while we’re happy to hear that the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model and beloved Lip Sync Battle star is getting the help she needs these days, her love John Legend just had something unexpected to say about Teigen’s struggle… specifically, his reaction to it.
Teigen initially revealed the details of her previously unknown struggle to Glamour, saying that after the birth of her daughter, “I had everything I needed to be happy. And yet, for much of the last year, I felt unhappy.”
Now, her loving hubby, John Legend, has opened up about recognizing and supporting his wife during her postpartum depression… and not knowing what to do at first. “You don’t see it coming,” he admitted to the Sun. “You’re not emotionally prepared for someone that’s going through a dark time as you’re welcoming this new life. When you don’t understand what’s happening, it’s a bit challenging to figure it out and you don’t know if it’s something you’ve done or some other reason why she’s not feeling well.”
He continued, “Once you understand what the reasons are then it makes perfect sense and you can adjust accordingly.” One of those adjustments meant Teigen’s need to process and share what she was going through via her Glamour piece. “I think it was good for her to talk about it,” Legend said. “She was already doing better when she was writing the piece. She was coming out of it and was able to see it more clearly with some perspective and I think it was helpful for her to be on her way out of it as she was writing.”
We’re so thrilled to hear that Chrissy Teigen is doing better these days. And can’t wait for baby #2, as John Legend was sure to add, “We want three or four children. We’re still excited to have more kids and we’re going to do it.”
