Jordin Sparks Opens Up About the Scary Complication During Her Son’s Birth
After revealing over the weekend that she had given birth to her first child, a baby boy, with husband Dana Isaiah, Jordin Sparks is opening up about the scary complication that arose during his delivery.
The singer previously shared that, along with a midwife, she and Isaiah went to a birth center as opposed to a traditional hospital to have the baby. The midwife turned out to be invaluable. “It was a good thing,” Sparks explained to People, “because the umbilical cord was wrapped around [the baby’s] neck twice.”
Isaiah assisted the midwife with the birth, even catching his son upon his arrival, but he was at a loss for what to do when he saw the cord. “I didn’t see it because I was facing the other way,” Sparks said. “[Isaiah] was just like, ‘I don’t know what to do.'” Luckily, the midwife did, and while Isaiah held his newborn son, the cord was removed immediately.
As previously reported, Sparks and Isaiah welcomed their son on Wednesday, May 2, naming him Dana Thomas Isaiah Jr. — or DJ for short. The couple first revealed they were expecting back in November, when they also let fans know that they had secretly wed four months earlier in Hawaii.
Previously, the American Idol alum told People that the moment she first held little DJ was unforgettable — especially given the brief, but frightening, complication. “When [Isaiah] handed him to me, I was absolutely overwhelmed with joy,” she said. “He was and is everything we imagined.”
