We’re Totally SMITTEN With This Wall Art Collection
A living space is never complete without some wall art. We take our wall art inspiring and motivational with a touch of pretty and personality, please. Some of our favorite pieces of said home decor come from maker Judith D’Amato of The Smitten Collection. Her artwork makes for a great gift (to yourself!) or others and can (woo!) be perused, Pinned and picked up in our shop. We chatted with Judith to snag some advice for other makers out there and to see which of her beautiful prints hangs in her home below.
First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself.
I married my best friend four and a half years ago, and along with him came a cute girl. Being wife and step-mom are two of the greatest highlights in my life. In April 2013, I added a third highlight, The Smitten Collection. It felt only natural since as long as I can remember, I have been dabbling in creativity. Those moments gave me the desire to start a career in graphic design.
Why did you decide to start The Smitten Collection?
I always wanted to have my own business. It’s in my genes. My parents owned their own business, and my grandfather was a tailor and had his own shop in Miami. I have a very supportive husband and family who made me realize I had to stop thinking about it, and just do it.
In five words or less, tell us why you love to make.
Making makes me happy.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Most of my inspiration comes from places I have traveled to and family relationships.
What does the making process look like for you?
Making doesn’t always happen the same way each time. Each project is different. I tend to be most creative at night, so I always make it a point to have my sketch book at my side table. From sketch to final product is a true joy for me.
Do you have any of your prints hanging in your home? If so, which ones?
I do! There are currently four in my studio space. To Love & Be Loved, Besos, Bonjour Mon Amour, and Eat, Laugh, Love. They give me the inspiration I need to keep going.
What other creative hobbies do you have?
I love interior design and DIY projects.
What’s one piece of advice you’d share with other makers?
Some items might be more popular than others, but creating to make you happy is the most important factor. Sharing your creative passion is sharing love.
Tell us how technology has changed and supported what you do.
Wow! Where would The Smitten Collection be without technology? From using tech tools in the design process to spreading the word via social media, every aspect of what I do is tied to technology. However, it is always nice to get back to the basics and use my sketchbook in concept development.
What’s up next for The Smitten Collection?
Our collection is slowly growing. I plan to expand our line of prints, and add a line of note cards.
