Julianne Hough Is the Latest Celebrity to Embrace Pastel Hair
With the arrival of spring comes a resurgence of color – not only in the clothing sense, but also in regards to all things beauty. A few weeks ago Hilary Duff dipped her whole head in green and now it looks as though Julianne Hough is the latest celeb to embrace an ultra-saturated dye job. The performer just posted a shot of herself on Instagram totally rocking bubblegum pink hair alongside the caption, “Pink hair don’t care!”
Considering she’s also now a lifestyle guru, naturally she attached a link to her site where she shares her stylist’s tips on how to “become a unicorn.” If you’re considering taking the color plunge, here are a few tips Hough’s stylist Riawna Capri has for you.
1. It’s going to be a commitment. If you’re looking for an overall vibrant color like Julianne or Hilary, you first need to get your hair pretty much bleach blonde, which is a process in and of itself. If you want something that’s more for the weekend or for a festival, maybe try hair chalk, a semi-permanent rinse that fades out over time, or only dyeing the tips.
2. Be Prepared for the required maintenance. On top of the bleaching process, you’re also going to need to do a lot of upkeep to help your tresses continue to look fresh. Capri advises that you chat with your stylist about what’ll be required just to make sure you’re up for it both financially and time-wise. She says, “Don’t embarrass your stylist by not keeping up your unicorn magic. This look can go from hot to hot mess really easily.”
3. Think hard about your color choice. According to Capri, there are four factors to take into account: skin tone, eye color, complexion and the amount of makeup you wear. She advises that purple hair + green eyes or pink hair + blue eyes tend to work together magically. Julianne’s cotton candy shade looks great with her fair skin, but if you have a lot of red undertones it might end up making you look like a walking Valentine.
