How to DIY the Chicest Hairstyle of Oscars Night in 5 Minutes Flat
Some people watch award show red carpets and wonder, “Who/what are they wearing?” We here at Brit + Co watch award shows and the fashion parade that leads up to them and wonder, how can *we* wear that? Or more importantly — how can we recreate that gorgeous ‘do, smokey eye or tooootally DIYable accessory?! One of the hairstyles we fell in love with during this year’s Oscars was model Karolina Kurkova’s majorly chic chignon. Not only was it one of the classiest ‘dos on the red carpet, it’s also one of the easiest to recreate. In just a few simple steps, here is how to do Karolina Kurkova’s Oscars chignon at home — bridesmaids, Pin this now and thank me later ;)
Step 1: Side Part + Pony
Comb your hair over into an extreme side part. Use a fine tooth comb to brush your tresses back into a low ponytail and secure with a super thin elastic so that it can be covered up with your hair easier in the following steps.
To give your ponytail that wet, sleek look you’ve seen all over the red carpet this year, generously use a pomade like TIGI Bed Head Hair Stick ($13) to tame flyaways and add some glam at the top of your head and down your ponytail. This will help make your ponytail look refined and polished.
Step 2: Tame Your Pony
Now, this next part is easy so don’t over think it (even though you’re going to want to ;) Take your ponytail and tie it into a knot. That’s it! Your average everyday knot — think, the way you would tie up a bag of bread. Keep your hair pulled taught and be careful not to let the strands get tousled.
Step 3: Knot It Up
Take the ends of your hair and wrap them around the base of the knot bun. Use a few bobby pins to secure the ends in place.
Step 4: Wrap + Pin
So. Freaking. Chic. (And simple!)
