Kate Beckinsale Handled the Most Awkward Social Media Interaction of All Time Like a #GirlBoss

We’ve all had awkward social media interactions. Maybe you made a comment that totally came out the wrong way, or tagged the wrong person in a post that didn’t relate to them at all (guilty!) or (gulp!) dared to mess with JK Rowling on Twitter.

Kate Beckinsale’s most recent interaction with a fan, however, just mayyyyy have taken the cake. The exchange occurred after Kate posted a photo of a recent dinner date she had with friends, who just so happened to include the likes of Molly Shannon, *NSYNC’s Lance Bass (who, incidentally, is also responsible for one of the nine greatest halftime show moments of all time) and Sarah Silverman — you know, Kate’s ex-husband Michael Sheen’s current girlfriend.

One confused commenter wasn’t quite so clear about 43-year-old Kate’s connection to the 46-year-old comedienne, however, making a well-meaning assumption that would have mortified most women.

“That Sarah is your daughter?” she asked. “Pretty like you @katebecksinale.” Kate, who is quite the comedienne herself (seriously, her Insta is hilarious), answered right back in pretty much the best way possible, saying, “Granddaughter. We are very proud of her.”

AGGGGGHHHH! Girl, nooooooo!

Luckily, there’s definitely no bad blood between the two: Kate and Michael are basically the best of friends (their adorable reaction to their daughter’s college acceptance was TOO cute), with Kate having gushed to E! about Sarah in the past, saying, “I love her. I love her. I love her. I am so glad Michael found her so I don’t have to spend the rest of my life looking for her.”

She also strongly approves of the influence Sarah will likely have on her REAL daughter Lily, having previously told Stylist, “I’m completely open to any other strong, cool, sensitive, independent-thinking women who are going to be an influence in my daughter’s life.”

The gang clearly didn’t let it ruin their fun, either: See them do karaoke to “Hard Knock Life” below.

Good for you, Kate — you’re pretty much the best.

How would you have reacted in Kate’s situation? Share with us @BritandCo.
