Kate Winslet Breaks “Titanic” Fans’ Hearts By Admitting She “Never Fancied” Leonardo DiCaprio
It’s been 20 years since Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio played star-crossed lovers in 1997’s Titanic, but the two have stayed super-close friends ever since. They’re so close, in fact, that Winslet says they still recite lines from the movie to each other. Offscreen, the actors have only ever been friends, but Rose and Jack fans might still find Winslet’s recent admission about the purely platonic state of their love a little heartbreaking.
“Luckily, and this is the fortunate thing, we never fancied each other,” Winslet said on ITV’s Lorraine talk show. “I know that’s really annoying to hear, sorry, but we really never did.”
Before you get too heartbroken over the dashed fantasy, Winslet actually credits their current long-term friendship to the fact that things never turned romantic. “It did mean that we were just able to have this…we were able to tease each other, which we still do,” she gushed. “It’s really amazing.”
Winslet recently called her relationship with DiCaprio “one of the greatest friendships of my life,” and admitted to Glamour UK that their phone conversations can get pretty goofy — a far cry from the glam reunions we usually see on the red carpet.
With Titanic having just left Netflix and Winslet saying there are no plans for her and DiCaprio to work together again anytime soon, we have to appreciate these tidbits about their friendship when we can get them.
