Our New, Favorite Home DIY Takes 10 Minutes and Guarantees a Huge Impact
It’s not every day that we come across a high-impact, statement-making DIY that’s both affordable *and* guaranteed not to devour our entire weekends. The fact of the matter is that we don’t always have room in our schedule for the types of projects that have the potential to spiral out of control and take up all our free time. So when we discovered these pre-sized stair riser decals from pattern-obsessed designer Katie Kime, we were pretty psyched. The decals mimic the buzzy stair art we’ve been loving for a minute now, and they can be applied in just minutes. And the wow-factor really speaks for itself.
Long story short: if you can apply stickers (and you know how we feel about stickers), you can do this project. Kime’s team developed Stair Riser Decals (From $80 for six). The temporary peel-and-stick decals come in a variety of common stair heights so anyone can use them… even renters. The styles range from cool geometric motifs and deco prints to trendy banana leaves and rainbow hues, so there’s a look that coordinates with any decor.
“I’ve always had a little bit of a stair obsession,” Kime tells us. “Over the years I’ve saved folders and folders of images of stairs — everything from dramatic art leading up the wall of a staircase to the stairs themselves with bold runners and hand-painted or hand-stenciled steps in bright colors and patterns. Then one day, after the introduction of our removable wallpaper, it clicked!” Kime has installed the decals in her own home and shows that it really is a simple process. So simple, in fact, that we’d categorize it as an afternoon project rather than a weekend project.
