Kelly Clarkson’s Emotional Performance on the Final American Idol Season Brought EVERYONE to Tears
It might be former Canadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen that we’re obsessed with these days, but OMG, we just want to hug Kelly Clarkson after watching this! The 33-year-old singer returned to American Idol last night as a guest judge and to perform, and the emotions in the room were off the charts. Of course, Kelly was the show’s first ever winner all the way back in 2002 (dead), and now that the show is in its final season, her performance of “Piece By Piece” brought EVERYONE to tears.
This isn’t the first time Kelly’s gotten emotional singing this song, either — back in August, she had to stop mid-song at a show at Staples Center because she was too emotional, revealing to the crowd that she was pregnant. Now only a few weeks away (YOU GO, GIRL) from giving birth, and Idol just a few months away from ending, the water works were on high.
Judges Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban sobbed during the performance. We all cried our eyes out. Talking to host Ryan Seacrest after the tear-jerker of a song, Kelly, ever charming, said, “I’m pregnant and I’m nostalgic and I can’t believe it’s the last season, and yeah, I’m really sorry I just bawled.” The audience, predictably, went crazy for her, just like all those years ago.
“It’s a touching song for me, because I wrote it about my little girl when I was pregnant, and now I’m pregnant with my little boy… which I hope comes out very soon,” she quipped. Though we’d selfishly love to see her back on the final season one more time, we wish her the best delivering her son (and look forward to the surely adorable Instagram about it).
