Kerry Washington’s Trick for Pattern Clashing Will Change the Way You Shop
Just when you thought you mastered the art of pattern clashing, Kerry Washington gave us a new way to think about mixing our favorite sartorial opposites. Rather than pairing two completely different prints to make up an outfit, the Scandal star recently kept the print the same and only switched up the colors. The result is the closest thing to magic eye that fashion gets.
The vibrant look, a Damask-patterned Mary Katrantzou two-piece set (of the non-belly baring variety) that the actress wore on Tuesday to promote her hit show during the 2015 TCA Summer Press Tour in LA, featured a dynamic color palette of electric blue and forest green that took turns in the forefront of the pattern on her top and her bottoms. The same-but-different styling isn’t just made for color lovers, like Kerry, it might be the most lazy girl-friendly way to give your outfit an eclectic edge this fall, that is, if you don’t want to go the more obvious (and omnipresent) boho route. As you can see on Kerry, the look needs minimal accessorizing — just matching earrings to tie the look together — and a five minute eye look at the most. To DIY the look at home, our advice to you is to find a few garments in one pattern you love, like French girl stripes or trendy polka dots, and buy out the pieces in every color available.
