What Kerry Washington Just Said Will Change the Way You Talk About Your Body
Kerry Washington, people. She’s super smart, a badass actress who plays an equally badass girlboss and a neverending style icon IRL. The George Washington University honorary degree recipient graces the cover of SELF‘s September issue discussing everything from her post-baby body to how she squeezes in a workout between Scandal call times and cuddle sessions with her daughter and husband.
The mother of 17-month-old Isabelle Amarachi and wife of former pro football player Nnamdi Asomugha shared with SELF that she has a different viewpoint on what she wants her body to look like after the birth of her daughter. “A few weeks ago, my manager asked: ‘Do you feel like you’re back? I feel like you’re back.’ She meant it as a total compliment, but we had this great conversation where I was like, ‘You know what? I try really hard not to use that language, because it’s not about going backward in life,'” the gal who plays Olivia Pope shared. She continued, “I’ve been really focused on not being ‘back’ to anything, but being the best version of myself right now. My body is the site of a miracle now. I don’t want to be pre-miracle.”
While the actress isn’t trying to look like her pre-baby self, she is staying active and healthy thanks to her go to workout outlet pilates. Just like Zoe Saldana, who shared her own post-baby selfie, launching 100 others not too long ago, these mommies seem to be sticking together in staying healthy, active and positive about their bodies no matter what.
