This New Fashion Kickstarter Is Creating a Black Darker Than Your Fave LBD
On-trend colors for clothes and accessories change as often as the seasons do, but the one color that will always be the last word in fashion is black. Ask any designer and they will tell you that a classic black outfit is the no-fail way to look polished and chic no matter what the occasion. And now, thanks to Phoebe Heess and her new line Viperblack, we have an even darker shade of black that will have fashion girls everywhere rejoicing.
Inspired by the meme that says “I’ll Stop Wearing Black When They Invent a Darker Color,” Heess (the designer behind Adidas‘ Stella McCartney line) and her team set out to give us exactly that with what they call the Holy Grail of fashion. Creating a color that’s blacker than black is no easy task. So how *did* they do it? They studied the Gaboon Viper, one of the few natural organisms that uses ultra black, the blackest material on earth (made of carbon nanotubes, if you want to get technical) to create a fabric that reflects 40% less light than standard black and gives us the darkest tee in the world.
The new line has been launched on Kickstarter, with pledges starting at $78 for one Viperblack t-shirt. If the pledge goal is reached, t-shirts will start shipping in March 2016. There are less than two weeks ’til the end of the campaign, and they still need a few thousand dollars to get funded, so head to Kickstarter if you want to make Viperblack a reality. We’re keeping our fingers crossed in the hopes that they’ll branch out from just t-shirts to give us what we all crave: the ultimate LBD.
