KJ Apa Falls for Maia Mitchell in Netflix’s New Rom-Com ‘The Last Summer’
Netflix just continues to churn out perfect teen rom-coms. The latest, called The Last Summer, stars KJ Apa as a new high school graduate who’s trying to make the most of his last summer at home before he moves away to college.
Apa, best known as Archie Andrews on the hit CW teen drama Riverdale, plays Griffin, a budding musician who has to choose between pursuing his passion or settling for the safer route of business school. Firmly on Team Follow Your Dreams? Longtime friend Phoebe (Maia Mitchell), whom Griffin has more-than-friendly feelings for.
The movie also stars Jacob Latimore, Halston Sage, and Tyler Posey as friends of Griffin’s whose stories intersect — and who also have to decide how they want their last summer of freedom to unfold.
“As the youths wrestle with love lost and found, form friendships in unexpected circumstances, and take greater control in their relationships with parents, they ultimately decide who they will be and what they will do as they stand on the precipice of adulthood,” Netflix’s description for The Last Summer teases.
So far, the streaming service has a pretty good track record with rom-coms. Following the 2018 success of Set It Up and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, Netflix is looking to keep the momentum going with The Perfect Date, starring Noah Centineo, on April 12, and The Last Summer on May 3.
