Ladies and Ladies: Hilary Swank Wants to Share Your Story
Lots of celebs took to the net today to show off their International Women’s Day celebrations with messages of thanks (Katy Perry), suggestions for new social media crazes (Charlize Theron), and photos of themselves in Women’s Day swag (Ciara).
One Oscar-winner in particular, however, wants to know more about your story as a woman. Hilary Swank announced today on Instagram that she’s seeking an inspirational woman to profile on Mission Statement, the website for her fashion line.

“Today is International Women’s Day and I want to take a moment to talk about the importance of us using our voices in order to continue to make equality for all women, around the globe,” she wrote. “We all face adversity and it’s up to us to stand together to overcome it — that’s why I always say #MakeAChoice #MakeItHappen!”
Swank went on to explain how she’s using her brand to do just that, writing, “It’s what my brand @missionstatement is all about. Each month we profile a new woman who has overcome adversity. To celebrate International Women’s Day, I’ve decided that our next woman profiled should be one of you! So head over to our Instagram page @missionstatement and read the stories we’ve done so far, then post YOUR story on Instagram (make sure to follow and tag @missionstatement in the picture) and tell us why you should be the next person profiled on Missionstatement.com.”
If chosen, you’ll be in the company of LA parole officer Kristi DeMarks, who shared her story about fighting for equality in a male-dominated field; actress Kristen Michel, who opened up about overcoming abuse to achieve her goals; and Swank herself. “I learned about classism at a young age,” she shared, reflecting on her childhood, growing up in a trailer park. Her need for outward approval drove her — until she discovered the power of compassion and its map to self-worth.
For Swank, these stories, much like her clothing, serve as “an homage to women who have extraordinary ideas, ambition, focus, and a love for living a full, authentic life.”
Ready to give it your best shot? Simply post your own “mission statement” to your Instagram page and give the brand a tag. Swank herself will be reading the entries, so if nothing else, you’ll know that you got a chance to connect with the Oscar winner. “[I] can’t wait to be inspired!” she shared.
We’re inspired already.
Give us a tag in your post so we too can read all your amazing stories @BritandCo.
