Why I Love a Matte Lipstick You Have to Shake to Apply
I absolutely love a good matte lipstick. More often than not, a no-shine lippie has more staying power than its traditional glossy counterparts and delivers intense color, two qualities my lips and I are all about. My latest obsession, though, is equal parts modern and nostalgic.
So when I found out that Lancome was releasing a matte version of its cult-favorite Juicy Shaker ($21), my heart skipped a beat. The lip gloss shakers first debuted in April 2016 as a reimagined Juicy Tube ($19) to lend the same sheer (but noticeable) wash of glassy color that sixth graders like me couldn’t get enough of back in the day. The latest update is the Matte Shaker Liquid Lipstick ($22). It gives a healthy dose of #TBT nostalgia while still leaving my pout with a punchy, pigmented color that manages to feel moisturized all day long while staying matte. Read on to understand why I’m obsessed AF with this lip hue that manages to offer the best of both worlds.
How is it moisturizing if it’s matte? It’s hard to fathom how comfy this lip color feels until you swipe it on, but I describe it as more of a balm feel than one of those other tight, ultra dry options. It’s packed with vitamin E and is housed in a water-in-oil emulsion formula, so your pigmented lips will never crack due to dryness or appear chalky.
Do the colors stay bright all day long? I wouldn’t classify this lipstick as an all-day stain, but it definitely holds up better than your average lipstick. The color will stay noticeable through several cups of tea and a salad, but you’ll need to reapply if you eat a cheeseburger for lunch. Take it from me ;). That said, I also really like how nicely these lippies naturally fade throughout the day, leaving behind an even wash of color that you don’t have to worry about.
Is the application easy? The application is one of my favorite things about this lipstick. You shake the product to distribute the color over the spongy, triangular applicator. The cushion applicator makes it super simple to trace your lips with precision without any need for a lipliner, which is a win on its own. You can also build up the color by applying additional layers of your desired hue to your lips.
