Lauren Conrad Used a Zero-Effort Hair Accessory to Upgrade Her Messy Bun
It makes total sense to turn to super simple hairstyles when we’re in a pinch, but what’s even better is when intentionally messy hairstyles are actually stylish AF. With the addition of a few (totally DIYable) hair accessories, you can easily take your hair from #WokeUpLikeThis to red carpet ready in a pinch. Get ready to press snooze a few minutes longer and embrace the fact that some hairstyles — like Lauren Conrad‘s latest – look better when they’re not perfect but still have that polished look to them.
Lauren Conrad sported this enviable casual-meets-chic look when she appeared on Amazon’s Style Code Live earlier this week. Her low, messy bun that was pulled together at the nape of her neck was accentuated with a thick piece of hair wrapped around it to conceal a hair elastic. A ton of texture, a sleek middle part and a couple of wispy face framers showcased the intentional style behind LC’s messy hairstyle — but two delicate hair pins with pearls on them were the game changers that instantly polished her ‘do.
To achieve this look, spray your hair with a dry texturizing spray like Not Your Mother’s Double Take Dry Finish Texture Spray ($6) — this will give it some grit and will help make it appear intentionally messy. Part your hair in the middle and gather it into a low bun at the nape of your neck, leaving a thick piece of hair out of the bun. Secure the bun with an elastic, and then wrap the thick piece of hair around the elastic so it’s all covered up. When your bun is set, place two souped-up hair pins at the top of the bun facing downward so you can see ‘em in all their glory. Here’s a bit of pin-spo so you, too, can get on board with the polished, messy look.
1. Urban Outfitters Pearl Bun Pin ($16): Shop a similar look as LC’s that’ll stand out just a bit more — perfect for those of us with a ton of hair. Match with cool-girl pearl earrings (think: jacket earrings with pearls and studs) for a funky spin on preppy style.
2. Linnet Bobby Set ($28): Who said your bobby pins have to match? Mix up the pearls with rhinestones and crystals for a more eclectic but still super polished take on the look.
3. Krystal Swarovski Crystal and Pearl Hair Slide ($34): This sparkly comb will make your hair shine — literally. It’s glamorously attention-grabbing and a cinch to apply. Could you ask for anything more?
