Sorry, ‘Gossip Girl’ Fans: Leighton Meester Wouldn’t Want to Do a Reboot
It’s been 11 years since Gossip Girl first premiered, and while stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley haven’t entirely ruled out the possibility of returning to their elite on-screen Manhattan lives, Leighton Meester has.
“It was a very special time … that was filled with challenges that have nothing to do with [Gossip Girl] and also sometimes things that did have something to do with it,” she said in a new interview with Net-A-Porter‘s magazine PorterEdit. The actress, who starred as queen bee Blair Waldorf on the CW teen drama from 2007 to 2012, went on to detail some of the difficulties, including being thrust into fame at the vulnerable age of 21, and the often-grueling filming schedules.
“I’m not haunted by that time, but it’s been interesting and helpful for me to look at it and examine it as an adult and go, ‘I don’t know if it was the healthiest environment,'” she admitted. That said, she “wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s sort of a time capsule.”
And in her opinion, it should stay that way. “A lot of the questions that come from it are: ‘Do you miss it?’ ‘Did you love what you wore?'” she continued. “And I understand that, but — and I say this with nothing but love — it is like saying, ‘High school was an amazing time for you, do you wish you could go back?’ And the truth is, it was so special and such a unique, amazing experience, but no, I wouldn’t wanna go back to it, I was a kid!”
At the moment, Meester is instead focusing on her starring role in ABC’s new sitcomSingle Parents. In it, she plays Angie, a single mother who bonds with a group of fellow solo parents. Single Parents premieres on September 26 at 9:30pm ET on ABC.
