Lili Reinhart Says Betty and Jughead’s Relationship Is Like “Romeo and Juliet”
We already suspected that the second season of Riverdale would be even darker than the first, but Lili Reinhart (AKA Betty Cooper) confirmed it herself when she stopped by the brand-new, relaunched TRL to give fans some inside scoop about what we can expect next from Archie and the gang.
“You gotta choose a side, basically,” Reinhart explained after teasing the “major rift” between the North and South sides of the drama-ridden town. And while that sets up plenty of intense story lines on its own, it’s certainly not the only trouble that’s brewing.
Referring to the fact that the season two poster shows a few letters blacked out in the sign for Pop Tate’s diner, ominously spelling out the word “DIE,” Reinhart said, “It’s kind of nicknamed the death diner in season two because of what happened to Fred [Andrews, Archie’s dad], and we pick up right where we left off, seconds after Fred gets shot.” (Um, does that mean Fred doesn’t make it?!)

We won’t deny that we’re anxious to see what happens to Fred, but we’re even more excited to find out what’s happening with Betty and Jughead.
Describing their relationship as one that would be marked on Facebook as “It’s Complicated” (yeah, we get that), the actress gave us a little more insight into their budding (yet struggling) romance. “I mean, they’re on different sides. Jughead’s on the South side. She’s on the North side. And it’s like a little ‘Romeo and Juliet’ sort of situation between the two of them.” (Let’s just hope this love story has a better outcome.)
We’ll be able to watch all of the star-crossed drama when season two of Riverdale comes to The CW on October 11 — just over one week away!
