Lili Reinhart’s Next Roles Will Probably Be Very Different from ‘Riverdale’
Lili Reinhart may be best known as Betty Cooper on Riverdale, but she doesn’t want to be only known as Betty Cooper on Riverdale. The actress hopes to show her range in other roles — roles that don’t require her to go back to high school, as she told Vogue Australia.
Explaining that she’d like to do more movies because her “heart is in film” and that’s where she feels “most artistically fulfilled,” Reinhart told the mag, “I see myself hopefully doing a lot of feature films and playing roles that are not high school characters. I’m definitely right now…looking at other projects to do in the future.”
At 22 years old, she wants to try playing her age for a change. “I’m very much staying away from high school-based characters and scripts because I play a high school student for nine months out of the year,” she said. “I don’t want to play…I don’t want to do another high school story.”
Above all, Reinhart wants to be able to stretch herself and show what she can really do. “I think in order for me to feel that I’m pushing myself and growing as a performer, I need to kind of do things that are a little bit more adult and maybe things that are more grounded, because Riverdale is so over the top and very fast-paced and everything is very dramatic,” she explained.
Which is not to say she doesn’t love drama. In fact, she told Vogue Australia that she’s “more drawn to things that are very dramatic” — particularly stories that “kind of have a slow burn and take their time.”
Reinhart shouldn’t have any trouble finding new roles, though. The opportunities are rolling in already. “It’s weird to get direct offers now, rather than having to audition,” she told Teen Vogue in October. “But it also makes me feel kind of suspicious, like, ‘Why don’t you want me to audition?’ I still feel like I need to prove myself, very much so. You’ve seen me do Riverdale, but that’s basically all anyone’s ever seen … You actually haven’t seen what I’m capable of.”
