This Beauty Instababe’s Lip Art Will Blow Your Mind
Remember when you were little and you would raid your mother’s makeup bag and go crazy trying on every product she had? Maybe your application of plum lipstick paired with seafoam green eyes didn’t win an award for the best beauty look of the year, but it was so much fun. As time went on, your makeup routine probably developed from playtime into an actual necessity (hello, dark circles), but what ever happened to that creative spark? We’re all about enhancing our natural features, but it’s time to revisit the playful side of makeup, just like the good old days. Beauty Instababe Becky W agrees, and she’s taking her lipstick game to a whole new level by creating mini masterpieces in the form of lip art.
Becky Wu is the beauty mastermind behind Instagram account @chavien_, where she creates stunning makeup looks, including intricate illustrations on her lips. She’s only been sharing her lip-art skills for a few months, but she has the steps down to a T. “It always begins the same, with laying down a base color, then going on from there. Sometimes I take eyeshadows and pat them on top with a brush or my finger, and at other times I use a small, pointed brush to paint in the details with liquid lipsticks. I think my favorite has to be using eyelash glue to adhere bigger pieces of glitter (and in one case, edible sprinkles) on. There’s no such thing as too much glitter!” We feel you, Becky. We feel you.

Becky does have a few products she can’t live without: “Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Witches ($20) and Jeffree Star Lipstick in Drug Lord ($18) are must-haves. They’re a basic black and white, and it helps a lot to have these to lighten or darken the liquid lipsticks I already own. When it comes to more uniquely colored lipsticks, Kat von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Ayesha ($20) and Melt Cosmetics Lipstick in Space Cake ($19) and Blitzed ($19) come to mind.”

While Becky doesn’t really follow any particular trends, she does love the creative control she has when she designs an overall look. “I really enjoy the creative aspect of it. I love playing with different colors. A lot of people think that makeup should enhance your natural features, but it’s not the case for everyone. I don’t mind walking out the door with brightly colored eyebrows or eyeshadows blended down to my cheeks, but at the same time I like doing something neutral and glam once in a while!”
Nothing is out of reach when it comes to Becky’s overall makeup inspo. “[I get inspiration from] everywhere! It sounds like such a cop-out answer, but I’ve been inspired by washi tape, my computer mouse, cartoon characters and, of course, other people’s makeup as well. Right now, I’m finding a lot of inspiration from a video game I’m playing. Inspiration is everywhere if you stop to look for it.”
We may not be pros like this makeup artist, but it’s inspiring to see what a few products can do when you let your imagination run wild.
