Meet Iris, the Smart Home of the Future (+ Win Your Own!)
You know what? Our homes are actually getting smarter. It’s kind of crazy and awesome in the most Jetsons way possible. For the last couple of years, we’ve seen smart light bulbs, smart ovens and smart thermostats popping up left and right. Iris, a smart home system by Lowe’s, aims to combine all of these pieces into one easy-to-use system, designed for the modern homemaker.
Launched in July 2012, Iris is Lowe’s smart home solution created to monitor and control virtually everything in the home anytime, anywhere from a computer, smartphone or tablet. The DIY solution makes the smart home simple, affordable and customizable, and makes homes smarter, safer, more energy efficient and easier to manage, providing overall peace of mind. Lowe’s offers more than 50 Iris-compatible devices – including security cameras, smoke detectors, water leak detectors and more — and connects with dozens of other ZigBee and Z-Wave enabled devices through its open platform.
And guess what? We’re giving away one Iris Kit so you can set up your own smart home. Lowe’s will even throw in one free year of service! Simply enter your email address below, and you’ll be entered to win.
This contest is now closed.
Submitting your email address also means you’ll be subscribing to the Brit + Co. newsletter (if you’re not already). This contest closes at 11:59pm on November 4, 2014. As always, the winner will be chosen at random. Full contest terms and conditions here.
We got a firsthand look at Iris at Re:Make SF, just a few weeks ago. In fact, we teamed up with Lowe’s to build an entire living room within Fort Mason and outfitted it with Iris technology. From just one iPad, we were able to control the lights and the temperature, and monitor all the goings-on in our mini home.
In your actual home, you can use Iris to manage your security system, turn off lights and lock doors. Set up notifications so you know everything going on in your home — you can even unlock the door to let in a friend who’s visiting and turn on the lights to welcome them into your genius abode.
