Thanks to social media-savvy makeup artists, it's never been easier to figure out which lipstick a certain celeb is wearing on the red carpet. But when it comes to their own glam, what the pros are actually reaching for is more of a mystery. We asked nine top makeup artists to reveal which beauty product they can't live without.
Kabuki, Celebrity Makeup Artist: “The MAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime Fix+/Sized to Go ($12) is always in my bag to freshen up foundation and enable it to be re-blended. I’ve used it on FKA Twigs, Rihanna, Dita Von Teese, Katy Perry, and Lana Del Rey.”
Sir John, L'Oreal Paris Celebrity Makeup Artist: “Anyone that knows me knows that skincare is maaajor for me, especially if you are wearing makeup. You must start with a nice canvas. The L’Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care ($18) is something that’s a staple in my kit. It’s my go-to for traveling; I get so greasy when I fly so I just do a quick makeup wipe-down and then apply this.”
Jenny Patinkin, Celebrity Makeup Artist: “I always have Herbivore Botanicals Coco Rose Lip Conditioner ($22) in my bag because it’s so multi-purpose. I use it to keep my lips and cuticles hydrated. I’ve definitely been known to use it as a subtle gloss on the eyelids and cheeks. On a recent shoot, I used it to take Taylor Kinney’s brows and to give them a bit of a sheen.”
Jamie Greenberg, Celebrity Makeup Artist: ”Albolene Eye Makeup Remover ($10) will literally take anything off! It leaves your skin feeling moisturized — not stripped. I’ve used this on Kaley Cuoco.”
Ashley Rebecca, Celebrity Makeup Artist: ”Alima Pure Lip Tint ($14) in my purse. They’re quick, easy to apply, and the color lasts for long periods of time. My favorite go-to shade right now is Peony, and I love the minty scent!”
Tracy Murphy, Celebrity Makeup Artist: “I love and am obsessed with Tammy Fender Quintessential Serum ($175). I discovered it and now I have Kate Upton obsessed with it. It makes your skin like butter!”
Helen Keegan , Head Makeup Artist, Make Up For Ever Lexington Flagship: " Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Color Paint Shadow ($25) is a hidden gem. It's an eyeshadow, highlighter, gel liner, and lip and cheek stain in one. It has a waterproof, 24-hour wear that's fit for everything summer can throw at us. I dab a small amount on the lid and take the excess to catch the light on cheekbones, cupid's bow, and the nose for an instant, melt-proof glow."
Marni Burton, Celebrity Makeup Artist: " MUA Professional Mattifying Balm ($15) is my secret weapon! It's a quick and easy way to keep a smooth complexion and absorb oil when you're on the run. If I'm taking a product with me on-the-go, I need it to be really versatile and serve multiple purposes. This balm doesn't require multiple layers like a powder would, and it gives you the feeling of wearing less makeup while maintaining a photo-ready face."
José Rivera , Benefit Cosmetics Makeup Master: " La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Daily Anti-Aging Primer With Sunscreen ($40) was a game-changer for me. It blurs and softens the look of texture and fine lines, makes foundation glide on like a glove, and keeps my skin demi-matte all while protecting it."
