Disney Just Announced New Release Dates for ‘Maleficent 2,’ ‘Mary Poppins Returns,’ and More
Get out your calendars, Disney fans. The studio just announced a whole slate of new and updated release dates for movies including Maleficent 2, Mary Poppins Returns, and Indiana Jones 5.
The sequel to 2014’s Maleficent will see Angelina Jolie reprise her role as the iconic villain alongside Elle Fanning, who will again appear as Aurora. Production on the sequel began in London back in May, with Fanning posting a behind-the-scenes Instagram pic from set.
“It’s bring your mom to work day on the #Maleficent2 set!!!!!” the 20-year-old star captioned the selfie, which shows both actresses in robes and Jolie wearing her horns while flashing a peace sign.

Unfortunately, it’ll be a while before you see the costars on the big screen together, as the release date is set for May 29, 2020, almost two years from now.
You won’t have to wait nearly as long for Mary Poppins Returns, which has been moved up a week to December 19, 2018. (It was originally scheduled for Christmas day.) The follow-up to the beloved 1964 film stars Emily Blunt as the whimsical nanny opposite Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Julie Walters, Angela Lansbury, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, and Dick Van Dyke (who, of course, appeared in the original film as Bert, the chimney sweep).
And that’s not the only change to a release date. The currently untitled fifth Indiana Jones film is apparently delayed. It was supposed to hit theaters in July 2020, but Disney has pushed it a full year to July 2, 2021, which is actually two years after its original July 2019 target.
But don’t worry — Emily Blunt has another film in the works that will bring some movie magic to 2019. The actress is teaming up with Dwayne Johnson for Jungle Cruise (yes, like the Disneyland ride). That film is heading to theaters on October 4, 2019.
