Mandy Moore Has The Best Idea For 'Princess Diaries 3'

In addition to The Princess Diaries' iconic makeover scene (which was actually an accident!), one of the most memorable parts of the Anne Hathaway movie is Mandy Moore's character Lana Thomas. The role was Mandy's first job on a movie set and the This Is Us actress would love the opportunity to play her again — hopefully in Princess Diaries 3!

At the Las Culturistas Culture Awards on June 15, 2024, Mandy Moore revealed to IndieWire that, while no one has contacted her for the rumored third movie, she "would be down" to join the junior installment. "I also understand that it's hard to think of how my character would be a part of the story now, unless it were some sort of redemption," she says. "Like she's kind of turned over a new leaf and she's a kind person who, like, volunteers walking foster puppies or something. There definitely needs to be that element I think in this story. But it would be so fun to be involved."

Mandy Moore remembers filming the first Princess Diaries very fondly, and told InStyle on the film's 15th anniversary that, “I feel incredibly lucky that I got to work with [late director Gary Marshall], and so lucky that it was my first-ever job.”
“I think being part of a film with a bunch of other people my age and never having done it before—kind of dipping my toe into this experience—it really set the ball in motion for me,” she continues. “I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, this movie stuff is fun. It’s like going to summer camp with all of your friends.’ It was a remarkable experience.”
I hope we get to see her as Lana Thomas again (maybe alongside Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse? A girl can dream!).
