Mandy Moore Says the Next Episode of ‘This Is Us’ Will Be ‘Bittersweet’
It’s only been a few weeks since NBC’s This Is Us dealt the devastating blow of Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia)’s death and heartbreaking funeral. As the family begins to carry on, the penultimate episode of season 2 will feature a loving look back at happier times for the family.
On the Tuesday, February 27, episode, called “Vegas, Baby,” the show’s past-tense timeline will show Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) a few years into being married and feeling a little worse for the wear thanks to parenting three young children.
“We come to the point where we don’t necessarily want to go through all of the hoopla and maybe just have a quiet night in — and the kids have another idea together,” Moore told EW. “It definitely is a lighter episode, and I think it will definitely be bittersweet, knowing what we’ve just gone through with these characters.”
With only two episodes left in the season, Moore also said that they’ll be taking a break from mourning Jack’s death. “We’re going to go back in time a little bit and we’re going to stay more present-day,” she said. “But we’re not going to revisit the immediate aftermath of this funeral in season 2.”
As Ventimiglia previously assured fans, his character won’t actually be going anywhere, and the upcoming episode is a promising glimpse into the way he’ll live on in the show. “Jack Pearson lives in all of our hearts,” the beloved TV patriarch tweeted after his death on the show. “He’s you. He’s me. He’s us… And this isn’t the end of Jack. Stay tuned.”
