Margot Robbie’s Stylist Tells Us How to Get Her 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards Topknot for $15
Margot Robbie won more than Best Actress in a Comedy at last night’s 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards: She also won big in the style and beauty departments! Clad in a smocked strapless cream and Chanel gown and Jimmy Choo sandals, the I, Tonya star kept things classic up top, too, stunning in an asymmetrical topknot. We got the deets from her stylist, Bryce Scarlett, on how to create the look at home, and it will only cost you $15.
“The whole look was inspired by the fact that Margot was wearing Chanel and for hair and makeup we were trying to emulate a classic, Chanel aesthetic,” Scarlett dished.
He was also going for carefree, since the overall mood was a bit more lax than the recent Golden Globes Awards. “From the perspective of hair only, I think this is a much more undone moment – there’s a lot more ease to the looks,” he said.
The hair guru began by coating the actress’ strands with the TRESemmé Expert Repair & Protect 7 Pre-Styling Spray with Biotin ($5) to ward off any heat damage.
Next, he got all up in her roots with the brand’s Two Extra Hold Mousse ($5), creating volume by blowing it dry with an upward-pointing nozzle before scrunching the Australian beauty’s locks with water to “infuse moisture and regain some of that natural wave.” He followed that up with another blow-dry sesh (this time using a diffuser).
After the drying phases were (finally!) complete, the celeb stylist blasted the 27-year-old’s entire head with the new TRESemmé Compressed Micro-Mist Hair Spray Hold Level 2: Smooth ($5) to give it a smooth, non-crunchy finish.
Once he was prepped and ready to style, the pro pulled the star’s shoulder length hair into a high off-center ponytail, allowing some strands to “fall out around the nape of the neck.” Finally, he twisted the blonde bombshell’s pony into an undone bun, using a simple black ribbon to tie a bow around its base.
To ensure this ‘do lasted all night without looking stiff, the style was finished with another coat of the compressed micro-mist spray.
As a finishing touch, additional strands were pulled out to frame the starlet’s face for a perfect undone, done look.
Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ll just be in the bathroom, practicing our off-center ponys.
