Mark Zuckerberg Wants Girls to Be Inventors and Karlie Kloss Is Totally into It

We know Karlie Kloss is all about that coding life. Last year she even launched a scholarship called #KodeWithKarlie for girls interested in attending a summer coding school at New York’s Flatiron School. That’s why it’s so awesome that she shared an exchange between Facebook founder and new papa Mark Zuckerberg and a grandmother with sweet (if a little dated and misguided) intentions.
“I keep telling my granddaughters to Date the nerd in school, he may turn out to be the next Mark Zuckerberg!” Darlene said in a comment left on Facebook.
We know your heart is in the right place, Nana, but Mark, who is a new papa to a baby girl who will surely do great things in her nerdy-charmed life, has a better idea. He responded, “Even better would be to encourage them to *be* the nerd in their school so they can be the next successful inventor!” Naturally, Karlie was all up on that, hashtagging #bethenerd on her repost.
Little Maxima Chan Zuckerberg and any other inventor gals that come along will have a long list of #girlboss ladies to look up to, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t continue to enthusiastically encourage the next generation to pursue their science, tech, and super-brainy dreams. Just ask Karlie Kloss.
Who knows, 2016 could be the year of a Mark + Karlie collab?
