Finally! Mary-Kate and Ashley Open Their First NYC Boutique
It seems like we get less and less news about super twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen these days. Besides their brief social media appearance at the Met Gala earlier this month, the sisters continue to remain (mostly) outside of public life. While we get rare glimpses of them through Instagram or paparazzi shots, the former actresses have been focusing instead on their incredible clothing line The Row. With the opening of their new boutique, we’re seeing something we’ve never seen done this way: a private shopping mecca tucked into an Upper East Side townhouse. While they have done something similar with their LA location, their new shop is oh-so-New York, right down to the art and decor (all of which are for sale).
In an interview with Vogue, the twins talk about their inspiration, hopes and what it took to create this three-story shopping experience. They waited years to open their NYC location because they always knew they wanted to open in the brownstone, but it wasn’t available for sale. They also didn’t want shoppers to come in and feel overwhelmed by the clothing, instead opting to create a comforting environment, tucked away from the everyday. This seems like a total MK & A move — they love staying out of the spotlight and want their clientele to feel comfortable in their homey boutique.
This place looks so dreamy and exclusive, like you could plan an entire day of relaxation, trying on clothes and just chilling with the sisters. We wonder if more high-end retailers will take this cue from MK & A and move more into shopping experiences rather than traditional retail. And TBH, we could actually see ourselves living there, which is the point the sisters are trying to achieve, right?
