The Latest ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Trailer Features a New Song and More Magical Moments
With just under two months remaining until the release of Mary Poppins Returns, Disney has released a new trailer teasing some of the many magical moments to come, including a new song from Emily Blunt’s titular nanny.
The trailer features a shortened look at Mary Poppins’ arrival to take care of the Banks children (and their children) following a family tragedy, instead showing how Mary gets to work bringing some childhood wonder back into their lives, in part with a new song called “Can You Imagine That?”
“Some people like to splash and play, can you imagine that?” she sings. “Perhaps we’ve learnt when day is done, some stuff and nonsense could be fun!”
As Mary draws a bath for the kids, a dolphin appears and they’re whisked away to a whimsical place where the bathtub is their boat and they’re on the open sea with — you guessed it — dolphins jumping all around.
Previous looks at the film have promised both animated and live-action sequences (much like the original), as well as dancing penguins, a flying bicycle, more adventures at sea, and even a cameo from Dick Van Dyke, who originally appeared in the 1964 Mary Poppins as Bert the chimney sweep.
The film also stars Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer as Michael and Jane Banks, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Mary’s friend Jack, Julie Walters as the Banks’ housekeeper, Colin Firth as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins, Meryl Streep as Mary’s cousin Topsy, Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady, and more.
Mary Poppins Returns will arrives in theaters on Wednesday, December 19.
