If you had to list your current trendsetters, Meghan Markle would undoubtedly be at the top. Rightfully so, the Duchess of Sussex (who is expecting her first child with Prince Harry this year) consistently steps out in elegant yet approachable ensembles that we can’t help but want to emulate. While she often sticks to classic silhouettes (like a #bosslady suit), she’s also known to push the boundaries with the latest trends (is that a sheer skirt?). As we kick off 2019, we predict she’ll test out seven key trends this season based on similar styles she’s worn in the past. Keep scrolling to check out the looks, and shop inspired items if you too want to jump on each trend.
She wears jewel tones. She’ll love earth tones. Believe it or not, the fashion world is coming back down to earth this season with head-to-toe beige looks moving front and center. We could absolutely imagine Markle in a similar ensemble to this one, but with tan and camel separates instead. (Photo via Karwai Tang/Getty)
Topshop Slouch Coat ($140): This may just become your everyday winter go-to.
She wears dainty florals. She’ll love bold florals. Florals for spring, groundbreaking? Well, as runway heavy-hitters from Michael Kors to Miu Miu showcased, it’s actually all about the bold, colorful, vintage-inspired floral print this season. And given Markle’s adoration for the pattern already, this twist on the print could be a new a favorite. (Photo via Max Mumbly/Getty)
Maeve Gardenia Wrap Dress ($130): Simply add a pair of heels and you'll make an instant statement in this one-and-done floral dress.
She wears classics trenches. She’ll love statement trenches. 2019 is the year of the reimagined trench coat with new styles emerging featuring embellishments like pearls and feathers. Given that Markle often tops off her looks with the closet staple, this updated take might be right up her alley. (Photo via Dominic Lipinsk/Getty)
Mango Headscarf Bow Detail Trench ($150): The printed scarves tied to the wrist gives this timeless trench a fresh twist.
She wears pencil skirts. She’ll love flowy skirts. Markle is known for her streamlined silhouettes like this look featuring a leather pencil skirt. But we imagine she’d be into one of the new voluminous skirts from the 2019 runways to switch it up. (Photo via Samir Hussein/Getty)
Zara Corduroy Skirt ($40): You could wear this skirt to work with a blouse or on the weekend with a tee and a moto jacket.
She wears pastels. She’ll love pop colors. While Markle tends to stick to a softer palette, we could see her experimenting with rich hues like the vibrant reds we saw on the Valentino runway and yellows and purples from Marc Jacobs and Gucci. Hey, if Queen Elizabeth goes for it with lime green suits, why couldn’t Markle? (Photo via Max Mumbly/Getty)
Equipment Adisa Dress ($425): Your new wear-to-every-event dress, found.
She wears tailored dresses. She’ll love power suiting. We’ve seen Markle step out in suit variations before, as well as tailored dresses like the look here, but we could so envision her in one of the new strong suiting looks for an upcoming event. (Photo via Dominic Lipinski/Getty)
ASOS DESIGN Mini Check Suit ($154): While this suit could clearly work in your nine-to-five life, the exaggerated silhouette makes it special enough for an evening out as well.
She wears skinny jeans. She’ll love straight-leg jeans. ‘80s-inspired denim like acid washes and oversized styles ruled the 2019 runways. While that might be a bit extreme for Markle, we believe she’d like a variation of the trend with looser straight-leg cuts. They have the same feel as skinnies, but they’re a touch more modern. Levi’s 724 High-Rise Straight Jeans ($48): These jeans are extremely flattering with the high-waisted detail and longer, straight fit.
