Meghan Markle might be undergoing royal training ahead of her May nuptials, but the former actress is definitely not compromising on one front: her sense of style. Sure, there have been tiny tweaks to her sartorial choices since her engagement to Prince Harry was announced — such as an uptick in top-handled purses over her beloved crossbody handbags and a few more fascinators than she previously had in her wardrobe. But for the most part, Markle's Hollywood fashion sense is still very much intact. Here, proof that the LA native will never let go of her California-girl style.
Naked Legs: There was a lot that broke protocol about Markle's engagement look — namely, her bare legs (for official appearances, the ladies of the British royal family wear stockings). Markle completed her ensemble with a pair of Aquazzura lace-up stilettos, which, naturally, sold out everywhere. (Photo via Karwai Tang/WireImage)
Smart-Looking Suit: For her first time presenting an award as Prince Harry's fiancée at the Endeavour Fund Awards Ceremony in February, Markle eschewed the traditional dress-code appropriate tailored dress. Instead, the former Suits star fittingly wore a very smart Alexander McQueen suit with a pair of black pumps. (Photo via Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images)
Long Coat With a Messy Bun: The 36-year-old's drape-front long coat, which she wore on a surprise visit to Northern Ireland in March, was by Canadian brand Mackage. Markle is a big fan of the brand and has been photographed in their designs well before she agreed to marry Harry. And to top it all off, she finished with her signature messy bun. L.A. Casual: During a visit to the UK Team Trials for the Invictus Games Sydney 2018, Markle wore a flowing trench by Babaton by Aritzia (another brand from her pre-royal days) over the Invictus polo and matching black pants. Proving you can't take the LA out of the girl, she finished her ensemble with a pair of stilettos. (Photo via Mark Cuthbert/UK Press via Getty)
The Shoulder Drape: While attending a reception for the Commonwealth Youth Forum, Markle pulled off the ultimate fashion it-girl move by draping her Camilla and Mark Marguerite Blazer ($699) over her Altuzzara vertical stripe midi-dress. (Photo via Samir Hussein/Samir Hussein/WireImage)
Laid-Back Professional: One thing that Markle has proven in her short time in the royal spotlight is that she's very good at elevating simple basics (like these sailor pants and coordinating top) to look polished and professional, but never stuffy — likely a lesson she learned working with Hollywood's top stylists. She also bucks convention quite often by donning lots of all-black outfits (another royal no-no unless it's for a somber occasion), as she did during her February visit to Edinburgh. Red Carpet-Ready: For the Women's Empowerment reception in April, the actress/activist chose Black HaloBelted Sheath Dress ($375),carried a black Gucci clutch, and had her glossy dark locks swept up into a loose updo. Sunny SoCal Florals: For the Invictus Games Reception, she wore the perfect bright green floral dress by Self-Portrait (which is sold out already, surprise surprise). While she's actually fulfilling her new regal responsibilities, Markle looks like she could easily be on her way to a talk show to promote her latest project. (Photo via Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty)
Updated Lady-Like Silhouettes For her first time appearing onstage with her future in-laws Prince William and Kate Middleton for the Royal Foundation Forum in February, Markle chose a belted sleeveless dress by Jason Wu (a Michelle Obama favorite). (Photo via Eddie Mulholland - WPA Pool/Getty)
The Oversized Hat: Royal dress code requires that the women of the family wear hats for formal occasions and, usually, it means fascinators. However, for Anzac Day, the former lifestyle blogger decided to turn that rule on its head (pun intended) by wearing a wide-brimmed, floppy hat for the Dawn Service. All she really needs to go full Hollywood glam is a pair of oversized sunnies. (Photo via Toby Melville - WPA Pool/Getty)
