Meghan Markle’s Ex Is Making a Show About a Woman Who Moves on With a British Prince After Divorce
There are plenty of ways to thrive after a breakup. You could go on a soul-searching vacay or opt for a fresh and fab new haircut. Or you could create a fictional television show that sounds suspiciously familiar to your own experience. Unfortunately for Meghan Markle, who is dating (and may soon be engaged to) Prince Harry, that’s exactly what her ex-husband, producer Trevor Engelson, is doing. According to reports, Engelson is working on a series about a man whose ex moves on with a British prince.
Deadline stresses that the currently untitled project, which apparently has interest from Fox, is fictional, and that the lead characters are not based on the actress and her ex. According to the site, the premise is simple (but with oh so many possibilities for quirky comedy and plenty of drama): “Divorce is hard. Sharing custody is harder. Sharing custody with the British Royal family when your wife marries a prince, in the unforgiving spotlight of London’s tabloid media, is next level.”
While Markle and Engelson, who were married from 2011 to 2013, don’t have any children together IRL, you can see why the series would take their situation to the (fictional) extreme.
Per Deadline, Markle has no connection to the project (other than the obvious). But we can’t imagine that she’ll be especially thrilled over this development.
The 36-year-old actress has kept her romance with the young prince relatively private since the two started dating last year, but she recently opened up to Vanity Fair about their relationship, saying, “We’re two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception.”
We wonder how people’s perception would change (for better or worse) if this show were to get more than just a pilot order.
