Meghan Markle’s Father Breaks His Silence on the Royal Wedding
When Meghan Markle took her last steps down the aisle this morning, it wasn’t on the arm of her father, Thomas Markle Sr. Instead, she met her groom with the aid of Charles, Prince of Wales. Now, the blushing bride’s dad has something to say about her big day, and it’s enough to have us dabbing at our eyes with tissues.
In an interview with TMZ, the former lighting director and cinematographer had nothing but sweet words for his daughter, quipping, “My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy. I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and happiness.”
Markle Sr. cited heart surgery for a recent heart attack as the reason for his absence. He told the outlet that he was doing okay following the procedure, but that it would “take a long time to heal.”
The Duchess of Sussex also addressed the issue with a statement via Kensington Palace just before her nuptials. “Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding,” she said. “I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.”
Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and father/daughter reunion for Thomas Markle Sr. and the new royal!
