Michael Kors Just Put His First Plus-Size Model on the Runway
Ashley Graham is making history left and right. The model has made the cover of Vogue twice in the last three months. Last year, she flaunted her stuff on the cover of Sports Illustrated, the first curvy model to do so. She even got her own body-positive Barbie! Now, Michael Kors just put Ashley on the runway for his Fall 2017 show, marking the first time he’s over done so.
She couldn’t have been more excited to participate, posting pics from her landmark moment on Instagram for her 3.2 million followers to see. She captioned the photo: “MICHAEL MICHAEL MICHAEL!!! Thank you for the opportunity and showing that beauty comes in many different forms!!”
Just look how happy she looks backstage! Her pal and fellow MK model Bella Hadid also looks thrilled for her. Ashley adorably captioned this pic, “Don’t let my runway face fool you, this is what really happens backstage! Thank you again #MichaelKors! ..and thanks to my boo Bella for giving me tips on my walk!”
The designer also seemed thrilled to have Ashley in his show, and hopes to make fashion more inclusive. “My job is to make everyone feel great. I think fashion’s sort of finally waking up to the fact that, you know what, do you want people to look like mannequins? No!” Michael told Access Hollywood. “You want people to have their own personality, their own style, and you know, you’ll see it here in the show today, all sizes of women, women from every continent on the planet, all ages! We have models in their teens, twenties, thirties, forties, there are moms in the show. I love seeing that mix, and I think it’s great when fashion reflects it.”
Hear, hear!
