Miley Cyrus’ New Instagram Campaign Will Leave You Seriously Inspired
June is national LGBTQ pride month and Miley Cyrus is ready to start celebrating. The founder of The Happy Hippie Foundation, an org that works to advocate for homeless LGBTQ youths, took to Instagram to launch a social campaign meant to inspire more than your average selfies. Partnering with Instagram and THHF, click on Miley’s hashtag #InstaPride to unlock “stories of transgender and gender expansive people from around the country.” She shares: “Over the next 2 weeks, you’ll meet them and the people in their lives who support them, as we highlight their stories of resilience.” Sounds more than worthy of a double tap.
The first photo and story features the above Instagrammer @isupershengwho shared: “I spent so much of my life uncomfortable with who I was and afraid to move because I didn’t want to stand out any more than I already did. This last year as I’ve been transitioning, there’ve been a lot of moments when I truly felt free to be myself: the moment I woke up from top surgery, the day the bandages came off, my first shot of testosterone. Sometimes, I’ll be out in public with my family or just hanging around with friends, and I remember that I’m no longer having to hide anything about who I am. I’m not afraid to move anymore and I know who I am. Everything about me right now is exactly as it should be.”
The pop star recently caused controversy when she described her gender as fluid and came out as queer in an interview with Paper Magazine. “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl,” she explained. Follow Cyrus’ Instagram or search the hashtag #instapride to share the love — and maybe your own story.
