Get in Our Pockets: Mobi Cork + Brass Wallets
It seems like every other Kickstarter is a new “life-changing” wallet. And some of them are indeed pretty cool and could change the way you carry your cards. Mobi, however, is hosting the least over-the-top Kickstarter we’ve seen lately — and the simplicity of both the product and the campaign is like a breath of fresh air. It’s kinda like, “Hey, we made this thing that everybody we know loves. You want one, too?”
Mobi wallets are designed and made in California from cork and brass. They come in six color/pattern options that maintain the rustic quality of the natural materials. Arash Malek and Carolyn Wagner (along with their dog Renzo) sort of started the company by accident. Malek made a wallet for himself, Wagner liked it so much that she stole it… and this idea that they might be onto something convinced them to set up shop.
They love working with cork. It’s durable, though “thinner than leather and harmless. It’s vegan, and it’s not pretending to be leather.” Bonus fun fact: Cork comes from harvesting bark. And when the tree is regenerating, it absorbs up to five times more carbon dioxide than a regular tree. How cool is that?
If you’re interested in pledging to their crowdfunding campaign, $25 or more will get you a Mobi wallet of your choice before Valentine’s Day 2015. The Kickstarter ends on December 16.
