4 Ways to Work Sartorial Style at Work
While it’s easy to fall into a monotonous schedule when putting together looks for the office it can be just as simple to crank up the fashion volume! Whether you work in a super-casual, creative environment or a more formal one, anyone can use a fresh take on work wear. ModCloth’s ModStylists show you how to have fun with your work style by following their tips below!
1. First up, ModStylist Amy jumps for joy!
Ladies, meet the jumpsuit. It will be your best friend, because in one motion you have a head-to-toe look that is comfortable, chic, and works for most seasons. I styled a sophisticated work look around a basic black one piece. Adding a colorful heel, layering with a bright blazer and throwing the look together with a fun statement necklace will keep this look stylish yet professional. After work plans? Lose the blazer and stow a fun clutch in your tote and you have a happy hour-ready ensemble! A jumpsuit with a tapered leg would also look great tucked into a bootie and layered with a denim jacket for an easy weekend look.
Get the look: Jumpsuit for Joy ($38); Creative Department Blazer ($35); Layers of the Land Heel ($240); Welcome Backpack ($68); and Collar Number One Necklace ($35).
2. Next, Chelsey goes for pops of color.
Word of advice, don’t be afraid of color. Typically when you think of work attire, you think of neutrals, but that shouldn’t always be the case. Why not try classic silhouettes in trendy, bright colors? My look boasts a bright orange shift dress and a classic satchel in cobalt blue. I topped off the look with neutral accents such as these opaque black tights, a black-and-white checkered jacket, and novelty printed wedges.
Keep in mind that you don’t have to get crazy with color, but rather choose a couple star hues and present them in a way that is both stylish and professional!
How to channel Chelsey’s look: Red Haute Chile Pep Dress ($75); State of the Art Show Jacket ($75); Heading in the Bright Direction Bag ($60); Mapmaking Your Move Wedge ($153); Know a Trick or Two Tights ($25); Come Full Circle Scarf in Coal ($20); and Quote Couture Earrings ($10).
3. Jess goes classic with the pencil skirt.
As the sophisticated career woman’s go-to for ages now, pencil skirts are a terrific staple when building your professional wardrobe. However, this classic doesn’t have to be drab! Ditch the predictable blazer for a quirky sweater or feminine blouse worn tucked-into your skirt. Add some neutral pumps and a statement bag for a refreshing, sleek ensemble. With a look like this, you can easily incorporate fun fashion into your workplace!
Create your own classic look: Go for Folk Skirt in Brown ($58); Maine Event Top ($63); Rating Royalty iPhone 4/4S Case in Sprinkles ($12); Business Brunch Heel in Rose ($45); Mural Maven Satchel ($65); and In Love with Lively Belt ($22).
4. Kelly goes sartorial chic.
If you’re lucky enough to work in an office with a more relaxed dress code, your outfit options are virtually endless. Why save your creativity just for presentations and well-worded e-mails? You can dress to the nines, rock an ultra casual outfit, or flirt with the line between the two by pairing bits of each. Try wearing your favorite colored skinny jeans with a fun print over femme fatale pumps. Add a final touch of polish with a bright blazer and statement jewelry to show that you mean business in, and outside of, the office.
Make this outfit yours: Concert in the Square Heel in Khaki ($60); Cocktail Flower Ring ($10); Old and New Pocket Watch Necklace ($28); Festive for Lunch Top ($40); and Gotta Jet Set Jeans in Moss ($60).
