9 Dog-Friendly Companies That Will Make You Want to Come to Work
The millennial generation has gone to the dogs. According to research firm Mintel, millennials are significantly more likely to own a dog than the general population. So it makes sense that a ton of millennial pup parents are looking for career options that allow them to take their pet to work — and with so many psychological and social benefits of bringing your dog to work, we couldn’t be more onboard. To help you get a head start on your dog-friendly job search, here are a few big companies with outstanding dog policies that both you and your canine companion will love.
1. Amazon: Amazon has been a dog-friendly workplace from the very beginning. One of their first employees brought their dog Rufus to the office, and he ended up becoming a mascot for the team. Today, Amazon encourages employees to bring their pups to work and has over 4,000 registered dogs in their Seattle headquarters. With amenities like two dog parks (including an off-leash dog park with a doggy drinking fountain), dog treats at reception, and special doggy events throughout the year, it’s no wonder the dogs of Amazon love being in the office. 2. Etsy: Etsy has welcomed dogs in the workplace since 2005. “Bringing our dogs to work helps keep spirits high and fosters a sense of community and connection that is paramount to what Etsy is all about,” employee experience manager Sarah Starpoli explains in an Etsy blog post. Plus, we can almost guarantee that there’s always some spare craft supplies to munch on.
3. Glassdoor: Popular career website Glassdoor is a great place to work if you love dogs. “Having a dog-friendly space is a way for Glassdoor’s employees to bring their whole selves to work,” says Employer Communications Manager Lisa Holden. “The perk is relatively cost-effective to maintain and allows employees a flexibility that they’ve expressed tremendous appreciation for.” (Photo via Glassdoor)
4. Google (Alphabet): Everyone knows that Google headquarters is home to some *amazing* perks — free gourmet food, transit, fitness classes, massages, and more. But one of the best benefits of working for Google has to be their stance on dogs in the workplace. According to Google’s official company policy, “Google’s affection for our canine friends is an integral facet of our corporate culture. We like cats, but we’re a dog company, so as a general rule we feel cats visiting our offices would be fairly stressed out.” Staff can even join the “Dooglers” — a group of self-proclaimed canine-loving Google employees — and visit a dog-themed café on campus inspired by the company’s first dog, Yoshka, according to Fortune.

6. Build-a-Bear Workshop: If you’re a dog lover who lives anywhere near the Build-a-Bear Workshop’s World Bearquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, you need to apply for a job there ASAP. “Our furry friends work alongside us at our World Bearquarters (Headquarters) and it is not uncommon to see a birthday cele-bear-ation invite sent to the office pups. All of their four-legged friends join in the fun, which always seems to include birthday cake and frosty paws just for the dogs,” they say on their careers page. According to Fortune, office dogs can also participate in a canine concierge service that whisks the office dogs off to a spa day complete with grooming and day camp. Umm, yes please!
7. Ben & Jerry’s: Dogs + ice cream = a match made in heaven! Ben & Jerry’s headquarters in Vermont is home to some very special employees, which they like to call their K-9 to 5’ers. 8. DogVacay: It’s not surprising that a company centered around finding homes for dogs would be more than willing to share their office with a few of them. The DogVacay office pups come in all shapes and sizes, and their humans have even set up a livestream called RoverCam where the public can see which pups are in the office at any given time. The company will also provide funds to help you adopt or foster a dog, and they’ll help cover your dog’s staycation with an awesome sitter whenever you need to get away.
9. Salesforce: This San Francisco-based provider of cloud-based software is a great place to work if you’re a dog parent. There’s a room in their headquarters called Puppyforce where employees can reserve a desk for themselves and their four-legged companion, and it includes everything your dog needs to thrive in the office — soundproof walls, water dishes, dog beds… you name it! They also provide pet insurance discounts and dog walking, and host adoption events too.
