This Upcoming NYC Conference Is Giving Us Major HBIC Vibes
While they say competition breeds success, there’s nothing quite as powerful as women supporting other women. So when it comes to the tricky task of finding your dream job after college, we’re definitely in favor of finding an inspiring mentor who can guide you on your path to career badassery. That’s why we’re super excited for this year’s Her Conference — an annual women-focused career conference in NYC that aims to inspire young ladies to learn about their dream careers from actual female experts and help equip them with the tools they need to go out into the professional world and slay.
This awesome female empowerment conference was started by the ladies of Her Campus, a mega-popular new media brand which aims to provide empowered college women with the resources they need to succeed after graduation. Now celebrating its sixth event, this year’s Her Conference will be held on Saturday July 22 and Sunday July 23 at the Convene Conference Center in New York City.
This year’s convention is *packed* with all-star experts looking to share their experiences in a variety of in-demand industries including media, journalism, marketing, PR, entrepreneurship, social impact, tech, leadership, and more. And we’re not kidding when we say the best-of-the-best are going to be speaking at the event — keynote speakers include actress Aja Naomi King; writer, producer, director, and Pretty Little Liars actress Troian Bellisario; Women’s March National Co-Chairs Carmen Perez, Tamika Mallory, and Bob Bland; acclaimed TV Journalist and women’s empowerment advocate Gretchen Carlson; Founder and Editor-in-Chief of MuslimGirl.com Amani Al-Khatahtbeh; and POPSUGAR Founder and President Lisa Sugar. Plus, they have a ton of fabulous panelists hailing from The New York Times, Simon & Schuster, Cosmopolitan, SELF, Refinery29, and much, much more.
Panels will focus on a ton of practical topics that IRL job seekers actually want to know — from what a typical day in an entry-level editorial job is like to learning about the ins and outs of starting a small business on your kitchen table from ladies who have already been there.
Along with being able to attend invaluable panels, a ticket to this hot event will also score you some fab swag from the Her Conference sponsors. Make sure to stop by the Ulta Beauty beauty bar and professional headshot station, head over to Forté Foundation to learn how to perfect your first impression when interviewing, and don’t forget to check out the IMPACT Melanoma informational booth on skin care. Plus, did we mention that the entire event is catered?! That’s right, you’ll be fueling your inner girlboss all weekend long with breakfast bars from KIND Snacks and a scrumptious lunch provided by Shake Shack (and don’t forget to pick up a goody bag full of awesome products from IT Cosmetics and much more). Skedaddle is also providing bus transportation to and from the conference for the Her Campus national team and discounted routes for chapters.
While most of the powerful programming will be geared towards college ladies, you neither have to be a college student nor identify as female to attend the event and gain valuable insight from some of the top ladies in the biz. Tickets for both days of the conference are $125 and the dress code is “collegiette chic,” which basically means professional and fun (AKA swap your jeans and sneakers for a trendy blazer and some comfortable flats, folks).
So whether you’re looking to get the inside scoop on today’s hottest industries from all-star HBICs or simply have a great time building your networking skills while brushing shoulders with like-minded ladies on an inspirational weekend in NYC, we highly suggest picking up a ticket and heading down to the Big Apple this July for this year’s Her Conference. See you there!
