One Button to Stop All Distractions
With the way we work now, frequent distractions are par for the course during a day at the office. But some tasks require intense concentration with no interruptions allowed. How exactly can you do that? A new project on Kickstarter called MyFocus aims to make it easy to get the dedicated thinking time you need, all with the push of just one button.
MyFocus is a physical device that plugs into your computer. It has two modes—focused and flexible. When you’re in flexible mode, you’ll get all your e-mail, text, and IM notifications, and the button itself glows green. This serves as a signal to your co-workers that you are available to chat if a question comes up, plus you can respond to any digital communications. When you’re in focused mode, however, all of the notifications on your computer are paused (until you return to flexible mode), and the button on your desk glows red. This signals to your co-workers that you’re in do-not-disturb mode, and hopefully enables you to get those important tasks completed.
You can get a MyFocus button for $76 by backing the project on Kickstarter. Take a look at the video to see how MyFocus works:
We love the idea of the MyFocus button, and the fact that there’s only one tap required to turn off notifications in all of your applications, but we’re not sure that it’s something we really need to spend the money on. Plus, as nice as it is to think the glowing red button would stop real world interruptions, we’re not sure everyone would get (or obey) the drift.
