Naya Rivera Reveals Her Disastrous Post-Baby Beauty Blunder
When it comes to being a new mom, there’s a LOT to worry about: your new (sorta) sleeping schedule, the staggering cost of raising a child, when (if?) you’ll go back to work. Your hair, meanwhile, should not be a cause of concern. Yet, that’s exactly what happened to Naya Rivera after she welcomed baby boy Josey, now 18 months.
“After breastfeeding, what I was left with was breakage in certain areas from the drop in hormones,” the Glee star revealed to People. “It was definitely thin on the ends and certain places like my widow’s peak would be a little more up in my face.”
To deal with the thinning, Rivera made her biggest postbaby beauty blunder. “I did probably the worst thing you could do in that situation, which is to then go dye it,” she said. Rivera didn’t just opt for a minor touch of color a la Hannah Jeter’s face-framing balayage, either: Girl went for full-on, all-over bright blonde highlights a month after giving birth. “I made the problem worse and paid the price for that,” Rivera says. “I’d tell new moms, ‘Don’t dye it yet!’ Don’t buy into the whole mommy makeover thing, because you will regret it.”
After trying carrot seed oil on a hairbrush, daily coconut oil treatments, and other at-home solutions, Rivera’s hair has bounced back thanks to Nioxin hair products (she just became the brand’s ambassador). “I’m excited to really help people — whether there’s a new mom out there who doesn’t understand why her hair has changed or started to thin, or a woman who is constantly dealing with dry scalp (like I was) — there is a solution,” she said in a press release.
Lookin’ good, Naya!
