Netflix’s New Horror-Themed Baking Show Is Perfect for the Halloween Season
Netflix has plenty of spooky original movies to keep you entertained through the Halloween season, and now you can add an addictive horror-themed baking show to the mix, too.
The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell stars none other than the Instagram baking sensation herself. The series will show McConnell making mesmerizing, goth-tinged treats for her nearest and dearest. It just so happens, though, that her friends and loved ones aren’t people — the skilled baker is surrounded by a house full of puppet monsters, including a loopy raccoon, a werewolf, and a Chihuahua-mummy.
“This is our home, and it’s a place where the strange and unusual are safe and welcome,” McConnell says in the trailer.
The monsters in the series were created by none other than Henson Alternative, the “mature” offshoot of the Jim Henson Company (responsible, of course, for the iconic Muppets universe).
Over the years, McConnell has become known for her Morticia Adams-esque aesthetic and her stunning, often macabre confectionary creations, which have earned her an Instagram following of 274,000. In 2016, she also released a cookbook called Deceptive Desserts: A Lady’s Guide to Baking Bad!
Netflix has found huge success with baking shows of late: The baking-fail phenomenon Nailed It! has already aired two seasons (with seven more new episodes coming for Christmas), and Sugar Rush, a baking reality competition show, came hot on its heels in July.
Season 1 of The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell will be available on Netflix on Friday, October 12.
