Netflix’s New Reality Show ‘Dating Around’ Captures the Best and Worst Parts of Blind Dates
Cancel your Valentine’s Day plans — Netflix is set to release its latest reality show, Dating Around, just in time for February 14, so you can experience the highs and lows of, well, dating around without ever leaving your couch.
Dating Around follows several single people as they navigate the modern world of dating. In each episode, one person goes on five blind dates in the hopes of meeting someone with whom they want a second date.
“To the first blind date of my life,” one single woman says in the trailer. “Hopefully you’re not a serial killer.” The couple then down a pair of tequila shots.
The show’s singles span different ages, races, and genders, and while the trailer is full of lots of sensationalized moments — like one dater telling her companion he’s a headache and another telling his “goodie girl” date that he loves drugs — it looks to be a much more humanistic look at the world of dating than most shows of its kind.
At the end of each date, the couples must decide if they want to see each other again. And judging by the first trailer, there will be at least a few connections made.
Netflix has amped up its reality programming following the massive success of Queer Eye, Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, Nailed It!, and more. Dating Around premieres on Netflix on Thursday, February 14.
