Why Anthropologie Is About to Become Your New IKEA
When you step foot into IKEA, it’s an immersive experience. You don’t just see stacks of minimal, Scandinavian-inspired decor pieces. You see them installed in real rooms that you could envision as your own. If you’ve been looking to have that same vibe at another one of your favorite retailers, it looks like you’ll soon be able to do just that at Anthropologie.
The beloved retail chain is beginning to open a handful of insanely huge locations that are closer to department store size than the boutique-sized storefronts we’re used to. The brand has already launched two of these newly formatted stores in Portland, OR (25,800 square feet) and Newport Beach, CA (24,200 square feet).
The stores include a “trend shop,” dress shop, intimates boutique, petites selection, 800-square-foot beauty shop and full-service shoe and accessories salon. Oh, and that’s not even including the home section (which is on another level, y’all). There you’ll find 12 fully decorated rooms showing off decked-out bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. There’s also a design service center where you can have furniture customized. Wow wow wow. Soooo… when can we move in?
The brand plans to open at least four more of these locations in 2016. Those will range in size from 20,000 square feet to more than 30,000 square feet. Ahem, Brit HQ is in San Francisco, just sayin’…
