Preview the 38 New Emoji Coming to Your Phone
These days, the most efficient way to communicate is by emoji. You can order a pizza just by sending a pizza emoji and search for dinner recipes with the help of the colorful icons. In fact, the most popular way to laugh these days among the younger set is with emoji (LOLOLOL). Since emoji is fast becoming a primary form of digital communication, we need a vast library to convey all our complex feelings and thoughts in a little character. Unicode 9 has 38 new candidates (including shrug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and pregnant lady!) that are still pending approval from the Unicode Consortium, but in the meantime, Emojipedia, the premier experts on emoji meanings, commissioned some awesome mockups for what these 38 new symbols might look like.
The extremely talented digital artist Joshua M. Jones was assigned the job, and honestly, we think he did tremendously. Lots of previously single emoji will be finding their matching counterparts in this new update, like Santa + Mrs. Claus, the bridge + the groom, princess + prince and even dancing woman + dancing man (anyone else get a John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever vibe here?)
Sooo… the cucumber and carrot emojis. Are they, like, going to be replacing the eggplant emoji or what? We’re taking bets.
What do you think of the new emojis? Tell us in the comments below!
